Sport-Utility Vehicles (SUVs) are in demand, and this is visible from the sales number for automakers in India. SUVs account for almost half of the passenger vehicles sales in India. In fact, buyer preference now shifted towards bigger, feature-rich vehicles with higher ground clearance and practicality. In fact, SUVs account for more than 50% of total passenger vehicle sales in the past 3-4 months.

  • Maruti Suzuki has sold 16050 units of the Brezza in October 2023 as against 9941 units in the same month last year, reporting a YoY sales growth of 61 per cent.
  • Maruti Suzuki’s latest entry-level crossover, the Fronx has also received an excellent response from buyers. The company has sold 11357 units of the crossover in October 2023.
  • Not just Fronx, the Grand Vitara has also managed to sell over 10,000 units on a consistent basis. The SUV has reported a YoY sales growth of 25%. However, the MSIL only manages to sell 1851 units of the Jimny lifestyle SUV in October 2023.

2023 Hyundai Creta Knight Edition Specs
  • The Hyundai Creta is due for a makeover; however, the existing model is doing great for the Korean brand. The company sold 13077 examples of the Creta in October 2023 as against 11880 units in the same month last year, reporting a YoY sales growth of 10%.
  • Hyundai’s Venue YoY sales increased by 21 per cent, while the Alcazar sales were declined by good 35%.
  • Hyundai has sold over 8097 units of the Exter and 117 units of the Ioniq 5 in October 2023.

  • Tata Motors is currently the 3rd largest car manufacturer in India. The Nexon and Punch combined sales account for more than 68 per cent of total sales.
  • The company has sold 16887 units of the Nexon SUV in October 2023 as against 13767 units in October 2022, reporting a YoY sales growth of 23 per cent.
  • – The company sold 15317 units of the Punch micro SUV last month, reporting a YoY sales growth of 39%. However, the Harrier and Safari YoY sales declined by 31% and 23% respectively.

Mahindra Scorpio N Crash Test
  • The new Scorpio-N and the Scorpio Classic combined sales stood at 13,578 units in October 2023 as against 7438 units in the same month last year, reporting a YoY sales growth of 83%.
  • Similarly, the XUV700 and Thar have reported a sales growth of 60 per cent and 53 per cent respectively. Mahindra sold 9647 units of the Bolero pick-up in October 2023 as against 8772 units in the corresponding month last year, reporting a YoY sales growth of 10%.
  • The XUV300 sales declined by 23 per cent. Mahindra has also sold 639 units of the XUV400 electric SUV in October 2023.
