Maruti Suzuki Celerio
The Suzuki Celerio is the most fuel efficient car on sale in our market. It is powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that also powers the WagonR and the Alto K10. In the petrol mode, the powertrain produces 66bhp and 89Nm of torque. The CNG version offers 56bhp of power and 82Nm of torque. The hatchback is claimned to return a certified fuel economy of 25.17kmpl with manual gearbox and 26.23kmpl with AMT unit. The CNG version returns an ARAI certified fuel economy of 34.43km/kg.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR
Known for its practical cabin, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR is the top-selling model in the country. The tall-boy hatchback is available with two engine options – a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder NA petrol and a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder NA petrol – producing 66bhp/89Nm and 89bhp/113Nm respectively. The 1.0L engine is also offered with a factory-fitted CNG Kit. While running on CNG, this powertrain produces 56bhp and 82.1Nm of torque.
The 1.0L petrol manual and AMT versions are claimed to offer an ARAI certified fuel economy of 24.35kmpl and 25.19kmpl respectively. The 1.2L manual and AMT claim to return 23.56kmpl with manual gearbox and 24.43kmpl with AMT gearbox. The CNG version is rated at 34.05km/kg.
Maruti Suzuki S-Presso
Similar to the Celerio, Alto K10 and the WagonR, the Maruti Suzuki’s entry-level tall-boy hatchback, the S-Presso gets a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine with manual and AMT gearbox options. The manual version is claimed to return a fuel efficiency of 24.12kmpl, while the AMT returns a certified fuel economy of 25.3kmpl. The S-Presso CNG is claimed to offer a certified fuel economy of 32.73km/kg.
Maruti Alto K10
The Alto K10 gets the same 66bhp, 1.0-litre K Series petrol engine with 5-speed manual and an AMT unit. The manual version is claimed to offer a certified fuel economy of 24.39kmpl, while the AMT model returns a marginally higher efficiency rated at 24.9kmpl.
Maruti Swift/Dzire
The Maruti Suzuki Swift twins – the Swift hatchback and the Dzire sub-4 meter sedan are one of the most fuel efficient vehicles on sale in our market. Both models share the platform and engine specs. Powering these models is a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 89bhp and 113Nm of torque. In the CNG mode, the powertrain offers 76bhp and 98.5Nm.
The manual version is claimed to offer a fuel economy of 22.41kmpl, while the AMT version returns 22.61kmpl. The CNG version delivers a fuel efficiency of 31.12km/kg.
Maruti Baleno
Maruti Suzuki is ruling the list of most fuel efficient budget friendly cars on the Indian market. The Baleno is powered by a tried & tested 1.2-litre 4-cylinder dualjet naturally-aspirated petrol engine with a mild hybrid tech. This engine is capable of producing 89bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. In the CNG mode, the powertrain produces 76bhp and 98.5Nm of torque.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno manual and AMT claim to return a certified fuel economy of 22.35kmpl and 22.9kmpl respectively. In the CNG mode, the powertrain offers a fuel efficiency of 30.61km/kg.
Tata Altroz
The Tata Altroz is the safest hatchback on sale in our market. Not just the safest, it is only model available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol version gets a 1.2L NA petrol engine, while the diesel version is powered by a 1.5L turbo engine. The petrol manual and DCT (dual-clutch) transmission claim to return a certified fuel economy of 19.14kmpl and 19.33kmpl respectively. The diesel version returns an ARAI certified mileage of 23.64kmpl. In the CNG mode, the Altroz offers 26.2km/kg of mileage.
Renault Kwid
Renault’s entry-level hatchback, the Kwid is powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder NA petrol engine with manual and AMT unit. This engine produces 67bhp of power and 91Nm of torque. The manual and AMT versions are claimed to offer a fuel efficiency of 21.7kmpl and 22kmpl respectively.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx
The Fronx is basically a crossover version of the Baleno hatchback. It is available with two engine options – 89bhp, 1.2L NA petrol and 100bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol. The 1.2L Manual & AMT claim to offer a fuel efficiency of 21.79kmpl and 22.89kmpl, respectively, and the CNG version delivers 28.51km/kg.
