Earlier, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first against New Zealand in the first semifinal of the 2023 ODI World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It is a replay of the first semifinal from the 2019 edition of the tournament where the Kane Williamson-led side had orchestrated a heartbreak for India in a game that stretched across two days.
