Since its debut in 2021, the Mahindra XUV700 has been a significant contributor to the success of the home-grown automaker. In a strategic move to further enhance its sales performance, Mahindra is gearing up to introduce new 6-seater variants to the XUV700 model lineup.
Leaked documents suggest that these variants will feature captain seats in the middle row and will be equipped with additional features such as an auto-dimming internal rear-view mirror (IRVM) and ventilated seats. The core structure of the SUV is expected to remain unchanged.
Presently, the XUV700 is available in two seating configurations – 5 and 7-seats, offering the 2.0L mStallion turbo petrol and 2.2L mHawk diesel engines, coupled with 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options.
Pending Orders
Recent revelations from the automaker indicate a staggering backlog of nearly 2.86 lakh pending orders for its SUVs, with a significant portion attributed to the XUV700. Mahindra has been witnessing a steady influx of bookings, with an average of 51,000 bookings for the XUV700 over the past few months, and a remaining 70,000 bookings yet to be fulfilled. The backlog also extends to other popular models, including 1,19,000 for the Scorpio (both N and Classic), 76,000 for the Thar, 11,000 for the Bolero, and 10,000 bookings for the XUV300 and XUV400. In response to the high demand, Mahindra & Mahindra has ramped up production for its three most sought-after SUVs – Thar, XUV700, and Scorpio.
Increased Market Share
Notably, Mahindra & Mahindra achieved a remarkable feat by retailing a total of 1,14,742 SUVs between July and September 2023, marking a twofold increase compared to two years ago. The company has consistently secured the position of the second-best SUV manufacturer in India for five consecutive quarters, with a notable surge in its market share to 19.9 percent in the SUV segment by the end of September 2023.
Future EV Plans
Setting its sights on leadership in the electric vehicle (EV) space, Mahindra & Mahindra is set to introduce a range of new EVs based on the INGLO platform. The first electric SUV from Mahindra, built on this innovative architecture, is slated for release towards the conclusion of 2024.
