The Japanese automaker, Suzuki has launched the made-in-India Jimny 5-door lifestyle SUV in the South African markets. The SUV is available in two trim levels – GL and GLX – with later offered with both manual and automatic avatars. The Suzuki Jimny 5-door is priced in the range of R 429,900 (Approx INR 19.63 lakh) to R 479,900 (Approx INR 21.93 lakh).
South Africa is one of the first international markets where both 3-door and 5-door versions of the popular Jimny off-roader has been introduced. The India-spec model is available in two trims – Zeta and Alpha – both offered with manual and automatic gearbox options. It is priced between Rs 12.74 lakh and Rs 14.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The South African-spec model is priced significantly higher compared to the one offered in our market.
The Suzuki Jimny 5-door for South Africa looks identical to the one offered in our market. It retains the front fascia, featuring a multi-slat grille with chrome elements, round LED headlamps and massive lower bumper that houses a slim air dam and fog lamps.
The side profile has squared-off wheel arches with massive cladding and blacked-out Wing-mirrors, and multi-spoke alloys. It retains the rear look with a tailgate mounted spare wheel.
Not just the exterior, the cabin of the Africa-spec Jimny 5-door looks identical to the India-spec model. It retains the retro-styling, featuring an analogue instrument console, rotary dials for AC controls, window controls on the centre console and round shaped air con vents on either sides. It gets a free-standing touchscreen infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, automatic AC, keyless entry and cruise control.
The off-roader comes with up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), brake assist and ISOFIX mounts for the child seats It is powered by the same 1.5-litre 4-cylinder K15B naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 102PS and 130Nm of torque.
Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic. The SUV also comes fitted with Suzuki AllGrip Pro 4-wheel drive system and a 3-link rigid axle with coil springs.
