The US Embassy has implemented changes in the visa application process for Indian students, effective from November 27. Aimed at preventing fraud and enhancing security, the new policy applies to F, M, and J visa applicants.
Notably, applicants must use accurate passport information for profile creation and appointment scheduling to avoid cancellation and loss of the visa fee. Those with incorrect passport details are urged to create a new profile or update existing information, possibly incurring a new visa fee.
In a bid to combat fraudulent activity, the US Embassy advises applicants with lost or stolen passports to provide proof of the old passport number. The move aligns with the embassy’s commitment to securing the integrity of the visa application process.
Reflecting increased interest, the US has experienced a significant surge in Indian student enrollment for the third consecutive year. The 2022–2023 academic year recorded a historic 35% rise, with 268,923 students, including a 63% growth in graduate students.
Additionally, 69,062 individuals in India engaged in Optional Practical Training (OPT), emphasizing the eagerness of Indian students to explore educational opportunities in the US. The consular authorities issued a record-breaking 95,269 visas during the June-August 2023 student visa season.
