The Duster has been Renault Group’s (Renault + Dacia) most successful model in Europe and in other global markets. In fact, Dacia has produced over 2.2 million units of the Duster SUV since 2010. In order to capitalize on the popularity, Renault has now introduced the new generation Duster SUV in Europe. The 2024 Renault Duster comes with all-new styling and more refined interior along with all-new mechanics.
2024 Renault Duster Styling
The new generation Dacia Duster is built on Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-B modular platform that also underpins the Sandero and the Jogger. Nissan will also have its own version of the new Duster for global markets including India. In profile, the new Duster appears familiar with some modern styling elements. The new gen model is slightly longer than the previous model; however, it looks significantly bigger and sportier.
The front fascia is inspired from the Bigster concept and looks good in pictures. It comes with a Y-shaped LED daytime running lights in the headlights, which are nicely connected by the chrome elements on the signature Dacia grille. The lower bumper looks like a flattened bull bar and it accommodates rugged body cladding, larger air dam with rectangle inserts and circular fog light units. It also has a prominent skid plate that gives it a rugged look.
The Y-shaped lines of the LED daytime running lights are also added to the rear. The side window design has also been redesigned. The SUV has blacked out pillars, and the rear door handles are hidden on the C-pillar. The SUV has large squared off wheel arches, promient roof rails and roof integrated spoiler, which also has resemblance with the Bigster concept.
The 2024 Dacia Duster has the tapering rear quarter glass, which is similar to the outgoing model. It comes with all-new alloy wheels, a blacked-out body cladding placed right below the mirrors and a unique kink in the cladding below the rear doors. The rear has dual-tone bumper and a much cleaner tailgate design. The roof integrated spoiler looks similar to the one offered on the Kiger and it also has an integrated brake light.
The trunk floor is lower and the trunk opening is wider and higher compared to the previous Duster. The luggage compartment is also wider and taller, and is claimed to offer a space of up to 472-litres (an increase of 6% compared to the 2nd generation Duster). The new roof rack has a load capacity of up to 80 kg, which is extremely practical for outdoor activities. In terms of proportions, the new Duster is 4,343mm long and 1656mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2657mm. Compared to the 2nd generation model, the new SUV is 2mm longer; however, it is shorter and has a lowered wheelbase of around 16mm. The boot space is increased by 27-litres.
New Duster Interior
Renault claims that the new CMF-B platform allows its engineers to create more space inside the cabin. The SUV is claimed to offer better legroom, headroom and shoulder space in both front and rear occupants. The new Duster comes with all-new interior, featuring a completely redesigned dashboard and the central console. It features a digital instrument console; however, the base model will continue to offer semi-digital driver’s display. It features a free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit with connectivity options.
The SUV comes with the redesigned automatic transmission selector lever, which is claimed to be driver friendly. It features a flat-bottomed steering wheel with controls for cruise & infotainment. Similar to the lighting system, the air con vent grille has a Y-shaped design. The Y design is also visible on the door trim armrests.
The company has used hard plastic all over the cabin; however, it appears much better in quality compared to the previous model. The new Renault Duster comes with 4 or 6 YouClip holders, which can accommodate a tablet holder, a bag, a smartphone holder with induction charger, etc.
2024 Renault Duster Engines
The next gen Duster won’t be offered with diesel engine. The company has worked on the 48V mild hybrid system to achieve higher efficiency, which will be closer to the diesel. The Duster hybrid will get a 140bhp, 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors (an electric motor & a high-voltage starter motor). It features a clutchless multi-mode automatic transmission with four speed for engine & two speeds for the electric motor. It features a 1.2kWh battery pack and the hybrid system also supports regenerative braking. The SUV can achieve up to 80% of city driving purely on electric motor.
The SUV also gets a 130bhp, 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a 48 volt starter motor. The starter motor will help in improving the fuel efficiency by up to 10%. The SUV will be offered with 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains and will support a 6-speed gearbox.
The 4×4 version has a ground clearance of 217 millimeters. It also offers five driving modes – Auto, Snow, Mud/Sand, Off-Road and Eco. The SUV has an approach angle of 31 degrees and 36 degrees of departure angle. The SUV comes with hill descent control as standard with all-wheel-drive layout.
