Director’s Funny Reason For Less Voter Turnout

While the average voter turnout for the 2018 Telangana Assembly elections was 73.7 per cent, it was a shocker in the 2023 polls, as the state recorded only 64.12% turnout by the end of poll-closing. Various debates are now going on as to why this turnout is low, and as usual, director Harish Shankar is at his creative best when it comes to analysing this.

When a netizen questioned why there is less turnout of voters in the just concluded assembly elections of Telangana, Harish replied, “Weekend mundhu Election day Friday leave pettesi long weekend plan chesukoni chaala mandi out of station vellaru”. While the comment is outright funny, it also looks like it could be true in some instances. Many voters who have all the right and eligibility to vote haven’t exercised their vote due to various reasons, and some are on holiday as well. So should we see this joke of Harish as a satire too?

On the other hand, the film fraternity showed good intent in coming out of their homes and exercising their vote and tried to inspire some youths to go and cast the vote. The likes of Megastar Chiru, Jr NTR, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, Vijay Devarakonda and other heroes have come out early in the morning itself to cast their votes.
