Narayana Murthy On Freebie : Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy is back in the limelight after his 70-hour work week statement, now saying nothing should be given for free. Narayan Murthy was speaking at the Tech Summit 2023 event in Bengaluru.
NR Narayan Murthy said that nothing should be given for free on promises of political parties giving freebies in elections. He also suggested that the people benefiting from the services and subsidies provided by the government should contribute for the betterment of the society. Poor like India to the country Murthy said that liberal capitalism is the only option to build a prosperous nation.
Giving an example, Murthy said that if you say, I will give you free electricity, it is a very good thing for the government. But you should also mention that if the attendance of students in primary and secondary schools reaches 20 percent, we will provide these facilities to you.
Narayan Murthy added, I am not against providing free services. I understand this well because I come from a poor background. But I feel that people who are availing free facilities should contribute something for the welfare of their own future generations.
Narayan Murthy Citing his own example, he said, “I am not against providing free services, as I too once came from a poor background, but I think we should expect something in return from those who have taken free subsidies.”
“Before I went to France as a student in the 70s, I was a leftist because my father was a great admirer of Nehru who believed in socialism,” Murthy recalled.
