Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with other world leaders gathered in Dubai for the COP28 World Climate Action summit. The leaders were seen posing for the customary ‘family photograph’ as the summit got underway on Friday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen interacting with various World leaders including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and European Union President Ursula von der Leyen.
Britain’s King Charles III was also present at the event and posed for the family photo along with other global leaders
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday arrived in Dubai to attend the climate conference, COP28.
“Landed in Dubai to take part in the COP-28 Summit. Looking forward to the proceedings of the Summit, which are aimed at creating a better planet,” PM Modi wrote on X after his arrival in UAE.
The climate conference, which begins today, will see a range of global leaders, more than 130 heads of states and governments and environmental activists in Dubai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called on all nations to work together to cut global emissions drastically, and announced a “green credit” initiative that focuses on creating carbon skins with people’s participation.
COP28 is officially the largest ever UN climate summit, with 80,000 participants registered on a list that — for the first time — shows who they work for.
Until this year, those taking part were not obliged to say who they worked for, making it tricky to detect lobbyists and identify negotiators’ potential conflicts of interest.
Some 104,000 people, including technical and security staff, have access this year to the “blue zone” dedicated to the actual climate negotiations and the pavilions of the states and organisations present.
That largely exceeds the previous record at last year’s UN climate summit in Egypt, COP27, which had 49,000 accredited attendees, and where oil and gas lobbyists outnumbered most national delegations, according to NGOs.
Polish, Latvian and Lithuanian presidents refused to pose for a family photo with world leaders at the COP28 climate summit over the presence of Belarusian strongman Alexander Lukashenko.
“This is called a family photo. Lukashenko does not belong to the family which we want to be a part of,” Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said in a statement sent to AFP.
“It would be hypocritical to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the head of state that has become a staging ground for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and to discuss the future of the world and climate change as if nothing happened,” Nauseda added.
King Charles said the world was “dreadfully far off track” on addressing climate change and that the global economy would be in peril unless the environment was rapidly repaired.
“I pray with all my heart that COP28 will be another critical turning point towards genuine transformational action,” he said, in reference to the 2015 summit held in France.
The monarch cited the impact of climate change globally, including floods in India and Pakistan and severe wildfires in the United States, Canada and Greece.
“Unless we rapidly repair and restore nature’s unique economy, based on harmony and balance, which is our ultimate sustainer, our own economy and survivability will be imperilled,” he said.
The UAE said it is launching a new $30 billion private investment fund focused on climate projects in developing countries.
The oil-rich host said it hopes the fund, called Alterra, will stimulate investments totalling $250 billion by 2030.
It said the fund “will drive forward international efforts to create a fairer climate finance system, with an emphasis on improving access to funding for the Global South.”
Iranian delegates walked out of UN climate talks in protest over the presence of Israeli representatives, state media reported.
The Iranian side considered Israel’s presence at COP28 “as contrary to the goals and guidelines of the conference and, in protest, it left the conference venue”, said Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian said.
The move came only hours after a seven-day truce between Israel and Hamas expired and hostilities between the two resumed in Gaza, following the deadly October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas militants.

UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres received him at the venue of the 28th edition of the climate change conference that began on Thursday and will run till December 12.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and PM Modi greeted each other with a hug. The two leaders then proceeded to meet Antonio Guterres.
PM Modi and Antonio Guterres shook hands and warmly met each other and the three leaders interacted with each other and posed for a picture.

The agreement on the operationalisation of the Loss And Damage Fund that is aimed at compensating developing and poor countries facing the climate crisis despite contributing little to it was welcomed as a “Landmark move” by India on Thursday even as it evoked a set of mixed reactions, especially from the Global South.
The UN climate talks COP28 opened on a positive note with countries clinching an early deal on the operationalisation of the Loss And Damage Fund with COP president Dr. Sultan Al Jaber highlighting that the science is clear and “now is the moment to find a road wide enough for us all to deliver climate action.”
India’s Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav posted on X soon after the decision was announced: “A positive signal of momentum from COP28 in UAE on the first day itself … Landmark decision on operationalisation of the Loss and Damage Fund was adopted in the opening plenary of COP28. India strongly supports the decision to operationalise the Loss and Damage Fund.”

Before leaving Delhi, the prime minister said he was happy to see that this significant event is being held under the Presidency of the UAE, an important partner for India in the field of climate action. “In keeping with our civilizational ethos, India has always laid emphasis on climate action even as we pursue social and economic development,” he said.
