Shah Rukh Khan’s Heartfelt Journey

After delivering two action blockbusters, “Pathan” and “Jawan,” Shah Rukh Khan is back in a heartfelt drama, “Dunki,” directed by Rajkumar Hirani. The director, known for movies loved by both audiences and critics, such as “PK,” “Munnabhai MBBS,” and “3 Idiots,” brings forth unconventional stories. In contrast to Shah Rukh’s recent image, “Dunki” showcases him in a more layered and realistic role, reminiscent of his performances in “My Name is Khan” and “Chak De! India.”

The trailer, released today, shows us the journey of a man named Hardy and his friends who aspire to go to England. Hardy and his friends face difficulties as they do not know English, prompting them to attempt illegal entry to England via the ‘dunki route.’ While the initial plot may be dismissed as outdated, it’s essential to note that the story is set in 1995 Punjab when middle-class people had higher aspirations. This is evident in their dialogues and the setting of the village, where water tanks on the terrace of every house are designed beautifully, sometimes resembling an airplane or a football.

With Hirani directing the movie, we can be sure of a film that may not be a 1000 crore box office success but will undoubtedly strike a chord with our emotions. “Dunki,” starring Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, and Boman Irani, is set to release on December 21st.
