Snapchat is doubling down on Generative AI features. Its latest feature is generating images through AI via text prompts and sharing them with friends. The messaging app is restricting this feature to its paid subscribers, though, so most people won’t be able to use this feature yet.
Users who are subscribed to Snapchat Plus ($3.99/month) can now generate images using simple text prompts. Users can access this feature by tapping the AI button from the toolbar on the right side of the camera interface. On this screen, users can enter simple text prompts, and there are some starter text prompt examples to begin with. Users can even draw on those generated images and add text before sharing those images.
Snapchat is also adding other Generative AI features, including the ability to make subjects in an image appear farther away than they are. It does this by filling in the background. You can test this feature by capturing a close-up picture, cropping it from the camera interface, and then tapping the ‘Extend’ button.
There is also a new way to use Dreams, which is an AI-powered selfie filter. It transforms images based on specific themes. Those who are subscribed to Snapchat Plus get one pack of eight Dreams every month for free. Snapchat added several AI features earlier this year, including an AI chatbot, and it is accessible to everyone.
