Netflix Ditches Uncensored Films!

Netflix has decided to stream censored versions of Indian films globally, aligning with the standards set by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

This departure from previous practices on international Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms means that audiences worldwide will no longer have access to uncut or director’s cut versions.

Netflix has embraced this shift, streaming censored Indian films globally, even those with political references related to the current government.

Popular films like “Bheed” and “OMG 2” in Hindi, as well as the Tamil film “Leo,” have been globally streamed in censored forms in 2023. This cautious approach, observed across various OTT services, responds to controversies like the Tandav web series incident in 2021.

However, this development may disappoint viewers expecting director’s cuts or uncensored versions of their favorite films. It is definitely a disappointment for discerning viewers that Netflix is conforming to current regulations, as it limits the possibility of viewers experiencing a film in its original, uncensored form with full content.
