Salaar is the biggest film of the year in terms of scale, grandeur, budget, and star cast. The film has been produced on a huge budget of 400 crores by Hombale Films believing in Prashanth Neel’s vision who previously delivered a 1500 crore blockbuster with KGF.
While the film suffered with a low buzz a few days ago, the hype has considerably gone up as the release date is approaching.
The biggest plus for the film is Prabhas teaming up with Prashanth Neel in a genre that suits Prabhas the most. The last few films of Prabhas failed also because the subjects and genres didn’t align with Prahas’ personality and he was miscast. But Salaar seems to be his best bet after Baahubali.
Action emotional drama based on friendship starring Prabhas in the lead with Prithviraj Sukumaran is nothing short of a casting coup. Two solid actors bonding on the big screen will be a treat for the audience if the emotional angle clicks well. Both teaming up to fight the baddies will make the audience jump in their seats with excitement and thrill.
Top tier hero film is releasing after a very long gap in Tollywood, the last being Sarkaru Vaari Pata. Fanwars aside, there is a tremendous curiosity among all sections of the audience to watch Salaar which should give the film mindblowing first weekend collections.
Speaking about the minus points, clashing with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki will have a significant effect on the film’s collections, especially in Hindi and overseas markets. Salaar is a huge film with mammoth costs involved. It has to do well in all markets to become a success. The collections from Telugu states and Karnataka won’t be enough for it to reach the break-even mark.
And if Dunki gets a positive word of mouth, then it will become the biggest problem for Salaar. Once the frontloaded craze of Salaar is over after the weekend, Dunki will take over, especially among the family audience who prefers to watch a colorful emotional entertainer with dollops of humor instead of a 3-hour long dark action film filled with gore and violence.
Opening wise Salaar will win the race against Dunki but the long run depends on acceptance of the content.
