Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal despite its thunderous box office performance received scathing reviews from a section of critics who found the film dull and the second half weak.
The film’s official social media handle is now responding to these negative reviews by sharing posters boasting about the film’s substantial global box office numbers. Some speculate that Vanga himself may be behind this handle, using it to mock his critics.
This approach of trolling from an official handle appears rather childish. Critics typically assess a movie based on its content, not its potential box office earnings.
In that context, the film should have garnered 5 out of 5 stars from the critics if we go by the moolah it is making at the box office. But did any critic give it 5 stars, even the most lenient ones? NO.
If critics start giving reviews going by the collections the film is going to make at the box office, then no industry or director will ever grow.
Many terrible films have worked in the past including this year which was a sequel to a 22-year-old film. Sometimes the hype, the combo of actor and director, the star power, the music, and other factors come into play for the success of a film.
Animal is a huge blockbuster but that doesn’t mean the film was flawless and its fantastic box office performance doesn’t make its critics irrelevant.
On top of it all, quoting a woman critic with box office numbers of the film and inviting hundreds of trolls towards her, is not exactly what an ‘alpha’ is.
