St Johnstone ‘appalled’ by racist abuse of Diallang Jaiyesimi

St Johnstone’s Diallang Jaiyesimi was sent off at Ibrox following a VAR review

St Johnstone will alert Police Scotland after midfielder Diallang Jaiyesimi was racially abused on social media.

The 25-year-old, on loan at the Scottish Premiership club from Charlton Athletic, was sent off in the first half of the 2-0 defeat at Rangers on Wednesday for a lunge on John Lundstram.

St Johnstone “firmly stand” with the player after he was targeted on X, formerly Twitter, and are “appalled that this unacceptable behaviour still exists in 2023”.

The club’s statement on Wednesday said: “We are aware of a racist tweet circulating that was aimed at Diallang Jaiyesimi tonight.

“We will pass this on to Police Scotland to investigate. Say no to racism.”

Rangers manager Philippe Clement was angered by Jaiyesimi’s challenge on Lundstram, which initially brought a yellow card before being upgraded to red after a video assistant referee review.

“It’s another player who is kicked off the pitch, so I am really frustrated with that,” said Clement.

“I don’t want to go in on emotions after the game, I am a little boiling so it’s better to cool down and make opinions about leagues or whatever.

“But it clearly wasn’t a good challenge with your studs forward like that.”
