Maruti Suzuki is currently riding a wave of success, having introduced a slew of products this year, such as the Fronx, Jimny, Invicto, and CNG versions of the Brezza and Grand Vitara. Looking ahead to 2024, the company is set to unveil some highly anticipated products, including its inaugural electric car. The popular Swift hatchback and Dzire compact sedan are ready to step into their next generation early next year.
The 2024 Suzuki Swift (Japan-spec) has already marked its global debut, showcasing the all-new Z-Series 1.2L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. This lightweight engine not only meets the stringent BS6 emission norms but also aligns with CAFÉ (Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency) Phase II regulations. In Japan, the new Swift offers two engine options – a 1.2L petrol and a 1.2L petrol hybrid. The hybrid variant, equipped with a CVT automatic gearbox, claims an impressive fuel efficiency of 24.5kmpm on the WLTP cycle, while the standard petrol unit provides a mileage of 23.4kmpl.
For the Indian market, Maruti Suzuki plans to offer the new Maruti Swift and Dzire with the advanced 1.2L petrol engine, available with and without mild hybrid technology. However, both models will exclude the CVT gearbox, opting for manual and AMT transmission options.
In addition to the Swift and Dzire, Maruti Suzuki has its sights set on updating the WagonR, recently spotted undergoing testing. Official launch details are yet to be disclosed, but reports indicate a likely showroom debut in 2024. Observations from recent sightings hint at a subtly tweaked rear bumper featuring a horizontal plastic cladding insert and repositioned reflectors. The new WagonR might also boast differently designed alloys.
Despite potential cosmetic updates, the engine bay of the 2024 Maruti WagonR facelift is expected to retain the 1.0L and 1.2L petrol engines with Dualjet, dual VVT, ISS (idle start-stop), and cooled EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) technologies, ensuring a seamless blend of performance and efficiency.
