The ongoing strike by Anganwadi workers, who are demanding higher wages, reached a deadlock after failed discussions with the state government. Despite meetings involving Minister Botsa Satyanarayana, CS Jawahar Reddy, State Government Adviser Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, and representatives of Anganwadi unions, a resolution was not reached.
The key demand from Anganwadi societies is an increase in wages and the implementation of gratuity. However, the state government cited a lack of funds, stating that the current economic situation does not permit a salary hike for the 1.64 lakh people involved. The government proposed considering the matter post-general elections and suggested seeking a High Court order for gratuity implementation.
Minister Botsa Satyanarayana emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the issue, assuring that discussions would resume after the Sankranti festival. He refuted claims that the delay was due to economic conditions, stating that the government needed time to assess the situation.
Despite this assurance, Anganwadi committee declared their intention to continue the strike until their demands are met. The representatives expressed disappointment with the government’s stance and announced plans to protest by besieging the residences of MLAs across the state.
