The severity of winter is continuously increasing in Aligarh district. Cold winds and fog have forced people to remain confined to their homes. There was dense fog on the morning of 28 December. People were seen chanting everywhere. There was light sunshine in the afternoon, but it did not provide relief. The night temperature also dropped to 10 degrees Celsius. At the same time, the Meteorological Department has expressed the possibility of rain on Sunday.

The effect of snowfall on the mountains is visible in the district. Melting has increased due to cold winds. The temperature is falling every day. Normal life has started getting affected due to melting and dense fog. Vehicles moved slowly on the roads on Thursday. Visibility was less than 50 metres. People going out for morning walks were also seen less. Although there was some sunshine in the afternoon, there was no respite from the cold. In the evening the melting increased again. On the other hand, efforts are not visible from the administration to save people from the cold. Till now, complete arrangements have not been made for lighting bonfires at public places. Whereas the officers are claiming to have lit bonfires at 50 places across the district.

Chance of rain on New Year

According to the Meteorological Department, there will be cold outbreak for the next two-three days. There is also a possibility of rain on New Year. On December 28, the maximum temperature was 19 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 10 degrees Celsius. There is a possibility of severe cold on 29th December, dense fog on 30th December and rain on 31st December.

To protect from cold, bonfires are being lit at night at more than 50 places in the metropolis including bus stands and railway stations. Apart from this, proper arrangements are being made by preparing permanent and temporary night shelters there. No one will be allowed to suffer in the cold. – Amit Aseri, Municipal Commissioner
