Kathmandu: The Nepali star cricketer Sandeep Lamichchane has been convicted by a court here in the case of rape of a minor. The court said that the sentence will be announced soon and it is almost certain that the Nepalese spinner will be sentenced to jail.
In August last year, a case was registered that a minor was raped in a hotel room in Kathmandu. The Nepal Cricket Board suspended the captain of the Nepal cricket team Sandeep Lamichchane after he was accused of raping a minor. On August 21, 2022, an arrest warrant was issued against Sandeep after the victim filed an FIR at the Gaushala police station here regarding the rape of a minor.

When the FIR was registered against Sandeep Lamichchane, he was participating in the Caribbean Premier League. After the tournament, he was supposed to return to Nepal and attend the trial. But an arrest warrant was issued against Sandeep because he remained in the Windies. After this, Sandeep posted the details of the flight he was arriving in Kathmandu on his official Facebook page and said that he would surrender to the police. He was taken into custody by the police at the airport as he arrived for questioning.

After this, 23-year-old Sandeep Lamichchane, who was arrested after a lot of interrogation, was released on bail last January. He has played in many T20 leagues and played 51 ODIs and 52 T20 matches for Nepal.
