Hanuman Director Prasanth Varma Responds To 'Avatar' Trolls

Prasanth Varma’s upcoming release, “Hanuman,” is gearing up to hit the screens this Sankranthi, poised to go head-to-head with several biggies like Guntur Kaaram, Naa Saami Ranga, Saindhav, and Eagle. The film has generated considerable excitement, promising a distinctive portrayal of Lord Hanuman in a contemporary context.

In a recent interview, Varma boldly declared that if “Hanuman” does well, he aims to make an even bigger movie than James Cameron’s “Avatar.”

This audacious statement, however, triggered a wave of online trolling, with netizens teasing Varma for his over-the-top ambitions, reminding him that even SS Rajamouli refrained from making such tall claims post the monumental success of “Baahubali” and “RRR.”

Responding to the online banter, Varma took to Twitter to set the record straight, asserting that his words were misconstrued.

He clarified, “If #HanuMan works well, it would potentially open doors for Indian filmmakers to explore ambitious VFX-driven projects like Avatar. That’s my intention in the interview! Pursuing such creative aspirations is a testament to the industry’s willingness to dream big and push our boundaries. Nothing wrong with dreaming big.”

Scheduled for release on January 12th, this fantasy action-adventure film stars Teja Sajja, Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Vinay Rai in pivotal roles.
