Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma will play T20 World Cup 2024: There is a good news for the cricket fans of Team India. There was suspense regarding T20 World Cup 2024 whether Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma would play or not, but now the curtain has been lifted in a way. Actually, both these great players have expressed their desire to play in the T20 World Cup to be held in June.
In such a situation, now the selection committee of Team India led by Ajit Agarkar will have to brainstorm before selecting the team for T20 against Afghanistan. Both these great players have made it clear that they would like to be a part of the T20 World Cup.
Currently, two selectors, Shiv Sunder Das and Salil Ankola, are in South Africa, while their president Agarkar will also attend the second Test at Newlands, Cape Town. Both Rohit and Kohli have not played any T20 match for India since the T20 World Cup semi-final against England in Adelaide on 10 November 2022.
In such a situation, it is now expected that Agarkar and company will talk to Team India's head coach Rahul Dravid as well as Test and ODI captain Rohit and star batsman Kohli before announcing the team against Afghanistan.
Now it remains to be seen whether Agarkar and other selectors will select both Rohit and Kohli for the T20 series against Afghanistan starting from January 11 in Mohali or will directly include them in the team on the basis of their form and fitness during the IPL.
30 players will be monitored
Around 30 T20 specialist players, including IPL stars, will be monitored ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup to be held in the West Indies and the United States. In such a situation, there is a possibility that during the two months of IPL, at least 25 to 30 players will be selected and their performance will be monitored. There may be injuries or fitness issues during the IPL and the selection committee will need two players for each slot, so that like-for-like replacements can be prepared.
T20 World Cup team will be decided by IPL
A senior BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity that 'Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya are not fit. Team India will be decided on the basis of performance in the first month of IPL, nothing more will be decided from the Afghanistan series. The source said, 'BCCI can never ask any franchise to manage the workload management of a star player, unless it is an injury related matter.'
Who will be Hardik's replacement?
The only player whose replacement will not be available is Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya. However, Shivam Dubey and Venkatesh Iyer can compensate for them. Both of them are all-rounders, but both of them have not bowled much for their franchises in IPLI.
