Tata Motors will launch 3 new electric SUVs in the Indian market this year. The company’s first EV this year will be the Punch EV that has been spotted several times on the Indian market. It is expected that the Tata Punch EV could debut sometime in mid-January 2024; however, Tata Motors is yet to make an official statement on the same.
Tata Punch EV Specs
Ahead of the official debut, key details about the battery pack and features of the Tata Punch EV have been revealed on the web world. We reported earlier that the electric micro SUV will be offered in two variants – Medium Range (MR) and Long Range (LR). It will be based on the ALFA modular platform with Tata’s GEN 2 EV architecture.
Tata Motors will significantly modify the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) platform to accommodate a battery operated vehicle. The transmission tunnel has been removed, and the Punch EV will come with a liquid-cooled battery and a permanent magnet synchronous motor powering the front wheels. If reports are to be believed, the Tata Punch EV will be available with two battery pack options – 25kWh and 35kWh – with former offering with the Medium Range variant. The Long Range variant will be fitted with a 35kWh battery pack.
High-End Features
The Punch electric SUV will also receive several high-end features, which are missing in the ICE version. It is expected to be equipped with ventilated front seats, which will make it the most affordable vehicle in the country to get this feature. Adding to it, the Tata Punch EV higher variants will come equipped with a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is offered on the Nexon EV.
The 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit will be compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, voice navigation and others. The lower variants will continue to be offered with a smaller 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, which also supports smartphone connectivity system. Not just the touchscreen, the Punch EV will share the jewelled drive selector from the Nexon EV.
The previous spy shots reveal that the Tata Punch EV will come with disc brakes for all wheels, a new two-spoke steering wheel with illuminated Tata logo, a digital driver’s display and an electronic parking brake. The electric SUV is also likely to receive a single-pane sunroof, automatic air conditioning, adjustable driver’s seat, wireless phone charging and others.
The electric SUV will look identical to the ICE version; however, it will have several EV-specific changes. The Tata Punch EV will come with full-width LED light bars, a blanked-out grille and new alloy wheels, which shares sibling from the Nexon EV.
Tata Punch EV Launch Details
The electric SUV will directly rival the Citroen eC3 in our market. If reports are to be believed, Hyundai is also working on an electric version of the Exter micro SUV. The EV will be positioned somewhere between the Nexon EV and the Tiago EV, in terms of pricing. We expect the new model could be priced somewhere between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 13 lakh.
