Out of nowhere, it looks like Samsung is preparing to release a new EVO SSD, which happens to have popped up on the company’s official Ukrainian portal. The 990 EVO SSD, as it were, isn’t available for purchase yet; nevertheless, the Ukrainian website has revealed everything but the price.

Here’s the 990 EVO PCIe 4.0 x4/5 NVMe M.2 (2280) SSD from Samsung. As the EVO name suggests, it should be a more affordable alternative to the 990 PRO SSD released last year. But more on that later.

The official (leaked) spec sheet mentions 1TB or 2TB of V-NAND TLC memory, sequential read/write speeds of up to 5,000/4,200 MB/s, random read/write speeds of up to 700k/800k IOPS, and AES 256-bit encryption.

The 990 EVO SSD has a graphene sticker that dissipates heat, but there’s no mention of a version with a heatsink, a la 990 PRO.

How much will the 990 EVO SSD cost?

Although Samsung’s official website hasn’t mentioned prices, the 990 EVO SSD was also listed on Amazon in Germany (via WinFuture).

Oddly enough, the 990 EVO SSD is barely any cheaper than the 990 PRO at Amazon, but it is possible for the early listing to have higher-than-retail prices. Once it goes on sale, these tentative prices could drop.

For what it’s worth, the 1TB and 2TB 990 EVO SSDs are listed on Amazon for €114.90 and €189.90, respectively. In contrast, the 1TB and 2TB 990 PRO SSDs at Samsung’s online shop in Germany cost €129.90 and €199.90.

As to when the new 990 EVO SSD will go on sale, time will tell, but seeing how it’s already listed online, it might hit the shelves in Europe by the end of January.
