India and Pakistan have been placed in Group A of the T20 World Cup to be held in June this year. According to a report by The Guardian, apart from India, Pakistan, Ireland, America and Canada are in this group. The T20 World Cup will be played in West Indies and America from June 1 to 29 this year.

According to the report, the tournament will be played in a new format. The T20 World Cup 2024 will be completely different from the previous T20 World Cup and will not have a qualifying round or Super-12 stage.

5 teams each into 4 groups will be distributed
The 20 teams participating in the T20 World Cup 2024 will be divided into 4 groups of 5 teams each. The top 2-2 teams from all groups will reach the Super-8 stage. The top 2 teams from the Super-8 will also qualify for the semi-finals. The final of the tournament will be played on 30 June 2024 between the winners of the semi-finals. A total of 55 matches will be played in 27 days in the tournament, including 2 semi-finals, one final and 52 group stage matches, though the ICC is yet to make an official announcement.

T20 World Cup 2022 format
16 teams participated in the T-20 World Cup 2022, with 8 teams getting direct entry for the Super-12 stage. Four teams made it to the Super-12 from the qualifying round.

Australia in Group B alongside defending champions England
According to a report in The Telegraph, India have been placed in Group A, with all the group stage matches to be played in the USA. Group B consists of defending champions England, Australia, Scotland, Namibia and Oman, whose matches will be played in the West Indies. West Indies will face New Zealand, Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea and Uganda in Group C. In the last and fourth Group D, South Africa will face Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal.

20 teams in World Cup for the first time
For the first time, 20 teams will participate in the T20 World Cup. Previously 12 teams participated in the 4 World Cups played from 2007 to 2012 and 16 teams participated in the 4 World Cups played from 2014 to 2022.

The last 2 tournaments were played with 16 teams
The last T20 World Cup played in 2021 and 2022 had 16 teams. 4 out of 8 teams played qualifiers and became part of Super-12 stage. 45-45 matches were played in both the tournaments. This tournament, which started in 2007, now for the first time will involve 20 teams and for the first time more than 50 matches will be played in the tournament. India won its first title in 2007, England last won the title in 2022.
