Watch Tata Punch EV Undergo Terrain and Water Crossing Tests

Tata Motors has released another teaser for the upcoming Punch EV, set to hit the market in the coming weeks. The latest teaser video highlights the electric micro SUV’s off-road capabilities, showcasing its performance on various terrains such as gravel dirt, mud tracks, and rough roads. The test mule undergoes water crossing and articulation tests, demonstrating the Punch EV’s versatility.

Accompanying the teaser, Tata has unveiled interior images, confirming that the Punch EV will feature a new and larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This unit supports connectivity for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The updated centre console now incorporates a touch-sensitive AC control panel, reminiscent of the design seen in the Nexon. Additionally, the Punch EV adopts a new two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, borrowed from the Tata Nexon EV, featuring touch-based controls. The interior also boasts a fresh dual-tone upholstery, a 7-inch digital instrument console, air purifier with AQI display, auto fold ORVMs, ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone charger, leatherette seats, 360 degree camera, blind spot monitor, a sunroof, cruise control, electronic stability program and 6 airbags.

Significantly, the Tata Punch EV marks the debut of Tata’s new Acti.EV (Advanced Connected Tech Intelligent Electric Vehicle) platform. This platform will serve as the foundation for upcoming electric models like the Harrier EV and Curvv EV. The Acti.EV architecture is versatile, accommodating various body sizes, powertrains, and drivetrain systems.

Tata’s electric vehicles based on this platform are expected to offer a range between 300km and 600km. The platform supports both 11kW AC charging and fast DC charging up to 150kW. While specific powertrain details for the Punch EV are yet to be disclosed, Tata has confirmed that the micro SUV will be available in two variants: Standard and Long Range.

In terms of competition, the Tata Punch EV is positioned against the Citroen eC3. Anticipated pricing for the Punch EV starts at Rs 12 lakh for the entry-level Standard Range variant, with the top-end Long Range variant expected to be priced around Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom).
