Kalvakuntla Kavitha, a leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, has once again received a summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday, January 15. The ED has called for her appearance on Tuesday, January 16, as part of its ongoing investigation into the Delhi liquor policy case.
Upon receiving the summons, Kavitha has written to the ED, informing them that she will not be appearing before the agency as the matter is currently pending before the Supreme Court.
Kavitha was previously examined in connection with the probe in March 2023. In September, when she was initially summoned by the Enforcement Directorate, she sought relief from the Supreme Court, which granted her temporary reprieve.
The ED and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) suspect that a group known as the ‘South Group’ allegedly paid Rs 100 crore to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi to influence the now withdrawn Delhi liquor policy of 2021-22.
The Enforcement Directorate, in its prosecution complaint, has stated that the tweaking of the excise policy was orchestrated to recover the alleged kickback of Rs 100 crore from the ‘South Group.’
The agency has additionally accused K Kavitha of destroying mobile phones to prevent digital evidence from being traced back to her. Both K Kavitha and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) vehemently deny these allegations.
