Netflix has recently unveiled its Telugu film lineup for 2024, promising a thrilling array of titles set to captivate global audiences. Noteworthy entries in the lineup include “Devara” starring NTR, “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire” featuring Prabhas, and a host of other intriguing projects.
However, the most surprising revelation is Netflix securing the streaming rights for “Pushpa 2,” starring Allu Arjun. This move marks a triumph for Netflix, outsmarting Prime Video, which held the rights to the first installment.
Despite the controversy surrounding the early release of Pushpa on Prime Video just 21 days after its theatrical debut, the film emerged as a blockbuster, attracting a substantial number of new subscribers.
In a surprising turn of events, Netflix has now claimed the streaming rights for Pushpa 2: The Rule. Initially, expectations were that Prime Video would house both Pushpa movies, mirroring its approach with the KGF series.
However, Netflix appears to have strategically outplayed Prime Video in securing the sequel. It’s possible that Netflix’s global success with “RRR” has bolstered trust among Telugu filmmakers, or perhaps there were shrewd negotiations transpiring behind the scenes.
Netflix already boasts an impressive lineup, including Devara and Salaar, among others. Prime Video seemingly should have fought fiercely to retain the rights for Pushpa 2, even at a premium. The sequel was considered Prime Video’s trump card for 2024, making it disheartening to witness it effortlessly slipping into Netflix’s hands.
Regardless of the tactics employed, Netflix’s acquisition of Pushpa 2: The Rule stands as a significant triumph for the streaming giant and a huge setback for Prime Video.
