Nayanthara reacts to Annapoorani movie controversy

In a recent twist, streaming giant Netflix has removed the Tamil film Annapoorani, marking Lady Superstar Nayanthara’s 75th movie, from its lineup. This decision follows a stern warning from Vishwa Hindu Parishad, citing scenes that allegedly hurt religious sentiments.

Zee Studios swiftly issued an apology to VHS and promptly took down the title. The online community remained divided on the matter until the film’s lead, Nayanthara, addressed the issue through her social media platforms.

With a heavy heart, Nayanthara expressed, “Annapoorani wasn’t just a cinematic venture but a heartfelt endeavour to inspire resilience and instill the spirit of never giving up. It aimed to mirror life’s journey, where obstacles can be overcome with sheer willpower.”

She added, “In our sincere attempt to convey a positive message, unintended hurt may have occurred. We didn’t anticipate the removal of a censored film, previously screened in theaters, from the OTT platform. My team and I never intended to hurt sentiments, and we grasp the gravity of this issue. As someone who wholeheartedly believes in God and frequently visits temples across the country, intentionally causing harm is the last thing I would do. To those whose feelings we’ve touched, I extend my sincere and heartfelt apologies.”

Underlining the film’s aim to uplift and inspire, Nayanthara expressed that Annapoorani was created to bring positivity and inspiration, not to cause distress.

Annapoorani, produced by Zee Studios, Naad Studios, and Trident Arts, boasts a cast including Jai, Sathyaraj, KS Ravi Kumar, Redin Kingsley, Achyuth Kumar, Kumari Sachu, Renuka, Karthik Kumar, and Suresh Chakkaravarthy. The musical score is crafted by Thaman.
