The primary offender in the case involving Rashmika Mandanna’s deepfake video was detained by Delhi Police in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.
A deepfake video of Rashmika Mandanna became viral on social media in November 2023. In the video, the visual of Zara Patel, a social media influencer dressed in a black exercise dress, was modified and replaced with that of Rashmika.
The video sparked outrage. Rashmika Mandanna raised concern about the misuse of technology and stated that she was “really hurt” to witness the video. Amitabh Bachchan, the legendary actor, voiced concern over the misuse of technology and urged the government to take action.
Following it, the Delhi Police filed a case under the sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Deepfake is a digital approach for altering a person’s face or other body parts using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.
