Tata Motors has revealed the AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) versions of the CNG-powered Tiago hatchback and the Tigor compact sedan. This is the first time that CNG-powered vehicles are offered with an automatic gearbox in the Indian market. Interested buyers can book the Tata Tiago CNG and the Tigor CNG online or at authorised dealerships by paying a token amount of Rs 21,000.
The Tata Tiago CNG AMT will be offered in 3 variants – XTA CNG, XZA+ CNG and XZA NRG. The Tigor CNG AMT will be available in 2 variants – XZA CNG and XZA+ CNG. These two CNG cars are powered by the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine with factory-fitted twin-CNG cylinders.
In the petrol model, this engine is capable of producing 85bhp and 113Nm of torque. In the CNG mode, the power and torque drops to 73bhp and 95Nm respectively.
Tata Motors claim that the AMT gearbox has been tweaked to give the CNG automatic vehicles improved low speed driveability in slow moving traffic. Both models have also received new colour options. The Tiago CNG comes with two new colours – Tornado Blue and Grassland Beige (Tiago NRG), while the Tigor CNG is offered in a new Meteor Bronze colour.
The CNG versions are offered segment first direct start in CNG. Both cars start directly in the CNG mode so drivers do not have to worry about switching to CNG mode during drives. It comes with micro switch, which turns off the ignition as soon as the fuel lid is opened and keeps it off until the lid is securely closed.
