23,000 km in 1 year with the Virtus GT: My Ownership experience to date

I have been wanting to get my car coded, but have been holding on for a while.

BHPian Kaushiksudra recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hi All, I hope everyone is doing well and this ownership thread was of some help to people who were keen on buying the Virtus.

I’m hoping to keep this thread live for the upcoming years of ownership, and post updates from time to time.

It’s been more than a year now and 23,000+ kms in the Sapphire. Most of this has been done on the Bangalore-Coimbatore highway owing to my ongoing work there. With the project coming to an end, I’m hoping to put miles on some other new routes in the coming times.

The car has been performing as expected and nothing new out of the blue problems experienced other than the ones that everyone has experienced in the new VW Twins.

  1. There was a door beading noise issue which was a real irritant I had pointed this out in 1000 km service and 15,000 kms but they said it was sorted out only to return after a few days. This was finally cleared after the tape application was demanded when the care was sent for another issue after the 15k Service.
  2. There was a weird noise whilst braking and turning or even hard braking (usually heard at low speeds, probably persistent even at high speeds but not heard due to the other ambient noises). This was observed from about 5k kms and was pointed out at 15k service and was told the brake pads were cleaned and put back, but the noise returned in a few thousand kms. The above-mentioned issue was sorted along with the brake noise issue. But the brake noise returned after about 2k kms.
  3. There is a slight jerk every time the AC compressor goes on and you can hear a slight clicking noise like the ones you hear when we turn on any electrical equipment like from a relay or something. While I’ve come to live with this issue, I find the vehicle NVH levels have gone up considerably while the AC compressor switches on, will have to have it checked soon. But the irritating part is the jerkiness which I’ve never observed in any of my cars to date.
  4. There is a knocking noise from the back, which is pointed out in the Virtus thread. This remains unresolved. Plan to drop by sometime after the new year and have it sorted.
  5. The AC seems slightly inadequate, especially for the rear passengers and adjusting the blower control does sort the issue to some extent.

Other than these few issues, it’s been smooth sailing. The DSG crawl is phenomenal at 5 km/h in D2, if planned well you barely need to brake or use throttle whilst in slow-moving traffic. However, at times it does get irritating when the gear suddenly slots to D1 from D2 even at speeds of 12-14kmph.

Have been wanting to get my car coded, but am holding off due to the above-mentioned issues. I hope to do the same once the minor niggles are off.

One most important upgrades or additions is the MudFlaps, the details of the same can be found here.

Also, I tried adjusting the headlights to throw a little further in the low beam, as I usually don’t prefer using High beams on the highways and this adjustment sorted the issue. Plan to upgrade the fog lamps to the likes of Osram night breakers or Philips Xtreme Vision once any of the bulbs fail.

Time for some Eye Candy

Open roads are what she desires.
