Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankar starrer 12th Fail was an amazing blockbuster at the box office. Made on a budget of around 20 crores, the film collected more than 70 crores gross at the worldwide box office. In India, the film collected around 57 crore rupees. 12th Fail is based on the real life stories of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and IRS officer Shraddha Joshi. The film has completed 100 days.
A grand success event was held on this occasion. Film director and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra revealed shocking things during the successful meet. When we were about to release 12th Fail, everyone, including my wife Anupama Chopra (a renowned film critic), advised me to release it on OTT. Vidhu Vinod Chopra further said that everyone told me that 12th Fail will not work in theatres. He said that no one will come to the theaters to watch Vikrant. Some businesses said that 12th Fail will collect 2 lakhs on the first day and 30 lakhs in total in the long run. The film would have had less openings, but look where we are today.
Anupama Chopra said on the show, Yes, I told him (Vidhu Vinod Chopra) not to release the film in theatres. I thought no one would watch films like 12th Fail in theatres. I was completely wrong, and my husband was right. He said that 12th Fail proved that a film without stars can do wonders if it can please the audience.
