Lal Salaam Trailer: Relying Too Much on Rajinikanth

Lal Salaam Movie

Rajinikanth, after impressing everyone in “Jailer,” is next making his appearance in Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s sports drama, “Lal Salaam.” A trailer of the film was released at the last minute to boost the hype.

Going by the trailer, the film revolves around Vishnu Vishal, a Muslim protagonist with a troubled past, striving for redemption after a prediction by a priest. Rajinikanth plays Moideen Bhai, promoting communal harmony and serving as a crucial element in the movie’s appeal.

Despite the star power and Rajinikanth’s extended cameo, the film hasn’t created much buzz, mainly due to its unconventional genre—a sports drama addressing religious issues instead of a mainstream commercial film.

The trailer, though decent, lacks broad appeal, resembling the preachy films of the ’90s. Concerns arise about Rajinikanth’s character being highlighted but potentially having limited screen time or impact, leading to potential disappointment for the audience.

“Lal Salaam” marks Aishwarya’s return to feature film direction after an eight-year break. Historically, her films tend to connect more with a niche audience than the masses which explains the poor box office performance of her first two films.

Backed by Lyca Productions, Lal Salaam is scheduled for release this week on February 9.
