Tamil superstar Rajinikanth made a scorching comeback with Jailer which was a big hit not just in the Tamil market but also in the Telugu states. The film was a Rs 500+ crore grosser at the box office.
But Rajini’s immediate next film is meeting a pitiful fate with amusingly poor openings everywhere. We are talking about Lal Salaam, in which Rajini played a cameo but near full length character.
In the Telugu states, the film opened with less than 10% bookings in major multiplexes. The situation is even worse in other single screens.
The lack of promotions, no hype on director Aishwarya Rajinikanth and the non-commercial content have all contributed to the calamatic openings of Lal Salaam.
This will go down as one of the poorest opening s ever in Rajini’s career. It is heard that the openings on the Telugu states are close to a tier 3 hero if not lesser.
Even in Tamil, the openings are very poor. The name Rajini itself is enough to create mass hype for a film but that’s not even remotely the case with Lal Salaam.
After Jailer, one would expect Rajini to do another winning commercial potboiler but he opted to gilding the wish of his daughter Aishwarya and it has badly misfired.
