Nearly 15 years ago, director Anand Ranga brought to life the Telugu film Oy!, starring Siddharth and Shamili. Despite its lackluster performance at the box office, the film’s music album soared to chart-topping success.
Now, the romantic drama is set for a re-release in theaters on February 14, 2024, coinciding with Valentine’s Day. Prior to this, the director shared an intriguing behind-the-scenes tidbit about the movie.
He disclosed, “I had first suggested the title for the film Parugu. The lead guy is kept captive in the girl’s house, and the girl keeps coming to the window of the shed, calling out and talking to him.”
Expanding on this, he explained that since Udhay’s (portrayed by Siddharth) love story unfolded from January 1, 2007, to January 1, 2008, exactly ‘one year,’ they opted for the abbreviated title “OY!” This revelation piqued the interest of many, while re-release bookings are steadily gaining traction.
Sunil, Ali, Napoleon, Pradeep Rawat, Krishnudu, and others played pivotal roles in shaping the film’s narrative, while Yuvan Shankar Raja’s chart-topping album further heightened its appeal. DVV Danayya served as the producer.
