While Hyundai is selling over 13000 units of the Creta monthly, Kia manages to sell over 10,000 units of the Seltos SUV per month. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is also doing very well with close to 10,000 units sales per month. Honda, VW, Skoda and Toyota are also present in this segment, and many more brands will launch new mid-sized SUVs in the country over the period of next 1-2 years.

Tata Curvv SUV Coupe
Tata Motors will soon introduce the long-awaited Curvv SUV Coupe in the country. Scheduled to be launched in the Q2 & Q3 of the next financial year, the new Tata Curvv will be positioned between the Nexon and the Harrier. The Tata Curvv EV will first launch in mid-2024, while the ICE version will arrive during festive season- around October-November. The SUV will be offered with two powertrain options – a 125PS, 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 115PS, 1.5-litre turbo diesel. It will be the third model in the mid-sized SUV segment to be offered with diesel powertrain option. The EV version is likely to offer a range of up to 500km on a single charge.
New Renault Duster
Renault has confirmed that the 3rd generation Duster SUV will arrive in our market in 2025. The new-gen Duster will be based on the CMF-B modular platform, which also underpins multiple global Renault cars including the Jogger. The new SUV rides on a 2,657mm wheelbase, which is slightly smaller than the outgoing second-gen Duster on sale in international markets. Renault claims that the platform is compatible with multiple powertrain options and allows Renault to create more space inside the cabin.
The new Duster will come with strong hybrid and mild-hybrid engines. The strong hybrid powertrain comprises a 94bhp, 1.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors (49bhp drive motor), a 1.2kWh battery pack and an electric automatic gearbox (4 engine ratios & 2 motor ratios). The SUV can drive in all-electric mode up to 80% of the time in Cities. It also gets a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with a 48V mild hybrid motor. This engine is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox with 4×2 version. The mild hybrid setup features an 0.8kWh battery pack. It also comes with 4×4 All-Terrain capabilities and 5 driving modes – Auto, Snow, Mud/Sand, Off-Road & Eco.
Nissan SUV
The Japanese automaker will also have its own version of the 3rd generation of the Duster SUV. It will have an all-new design and interior, which will be in-line with latest gen Nissan SUVs on sale in global markets. The SUV will be based on the CMF-B modular platform and will be manufactured alongside the new Duster in the Chennai-based plant. The new Nissan mid-sized SUV will also share the powertrain options with the 3rd gen Duster SUV. It will rival the likes of the Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and others in the segment.
