Performance cars have long been synonymous with high-end, expensive vehicles boasting substantial engines and aerodynamic designs. However, Hyundai, Tata, and Mahindra are reshaping this narrative by offering performance-oriented cars at affordable prices, tailored to meet specific market demands. Hyundai Motors India, already renowned for the i20 N Line and Venue N Line, is set to introduce the Creta N Line, with rumors suggesting a potential sportier N Line version of the Verna later this year. Meanwhile, Tata Motors is gearing up to launch the Altroz Racer Edition, promising heightened performance in the coming months. Here’s an overview of these three upcoming performance-focused cars:
Tata Altroz Racer
The Tata Altroz Racer made its debut appearance at the 2023 Auto Expo and later at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. Featuring a potent 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine, it delivers a power output of 120bhp and 170Nm of torque, rivaling the Hyundai i20 N Line. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed manual gearbox. Sporting various sporty elements such as racing stripes on the bonnet, blacked-out headlamps, a blacked-out roof, all-black alloy wheels, and distinctive Racer badges, the Altroz Racer exudes a dynamic appeal. The interior is equally sporty, boasting a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7.0-inch instrument cluster, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, an air purifier, and six airbags. Upholstered in all-black with red contrast stitching, red and white stripes, and Racer embossing on the head restraints, it epitomizes performance-driven design.
Hyundai Creta N Line / Verna N Line
The Hyundai Creta N Line will carry distinct design elements setting it apart from the standard Creta. Featuring a unique front grille, headlamps with piano black finish surrounds, a tweaked bumper with a wider air inlet surrounded by faux brushed aluminum, and differently designed 18-inch alloy wheels. It will have N Line badging on the side skirts and rear bumper, along with specific exhaust tips. The Creta N Line interior will feature red accents, subtle N Line badging, and sporty upholstery. Under the hood, it will pack a punch with a 160bhp, 1.5L turbo petrol engine paired with a DCT automatic gearbox.
While the Hyundai Verna N Line remains a possibility, official details regarding its launch timeline and specifications are yet to be confirmed. However, if launched, it is expected to share the 160bhp, 1.5L turbo petrol engine and offer both 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox options.
