The new Tata Nexon has achieved a 5-star crash test rating from Global NCAP. This time around, the SUV was tested under the more stringent norms that came into effect in 2022. The compact SUV was previously awarded with 5-star rating by Global NCAP in 2018. It also achieved the second highest Global NCAP score for adult and child occupant safety in GNCAP #SaferCarsForIndia campaign. The top-spot is also held by the Tata Safari/Harrier.
New Tata Nexon Global NCAP Scores
The SUV has received 32.22 points out of a maximum of 34 for adult occupancy protection (AOP), and 44.52 points out of 49 for child occupancy protection (COP). In the frontal crash test, the SUV offered good protection to driver’s and co-passenger’s head and neck. The front occupants’ knees showed good protection. Driver’s tibias showed adequate protection and the passenger’s tibias showed good protection.
The footwell area was rated as stable. The bodyshell was also rated as stable and it is capable of withstanding further loadings. In the side impact, the head, abdomen and pelvis showed good protection, and chest showed adequate protection. Curtain airbags are standard and offer good protection to the head and pelvis in side pole impact. The SUV offers marginal protection to the chest and adequate protection to the abdomen in the side pole impact.
The SUV comes with ESC as standard and the performance shown in the test was acceptable according to Global NCAP’s latest requirements. Seatbelt reminders is standard in all seating positions. For both the 3-year old and 18-month old dummies, the Tata Nexon offers almost full protection in the front and side impact tests.
