For the last few weeks, it has been heavily speculated that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) senior leader Sonia Gandhi will contest from Telangana in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Telangana Congress passed a unanimous resolution requesting Sonia to contest in the state. Even Chief Minister Revanth Reddy requested Sonia publicly to contest in Telangana. She was expected to contest in the Khammam and Nalgonda districts.
However, all speculations went into vain as Sonia may not contest in the Lok Sabha polls. Today, the AICC released the candidate list for the upcoming Biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha. Sonia’s name was mentioned on the list from Rajasthan. The other candidates are Akhilesh Prasad Singh (Bihar), Abhishek Manu Singhvi (Himachal Pradesh) and Chandrakant Handore (Maharashtra).
This statement proves that Sonia is highly unlikely to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Her daughter Priyanka Gandhi may contest from Sonia’s present parliamentary constituency, Raebareli.
