Rajkumar Hirani’s latest film, ‘Dunki’, featuring Shah Rukh Khan, has made its debut on Netflix.
The story revolves around four friends from Punjab who share a common dream of going to England. However, they face the challenge of not having visas or tickets. Shah Rukh Khan’s character, a soldier, promises to fulfill their dream by taking them to England by donkey route.
Initially, there were rumors that the film would premiere on Jio Cinema, but it has now landed on Netflix. It remains to be seen if it will be available on other platforms.
Compared to Hirani’s previous works, ‘Dunki’ didn’t quite hit the mark with audiences. It received mixed reviews, with criticism for forced comedy, outdated execution, and lacking in emotional depth.
Despite the lukewarm reception and clash with Salaar, the film still managed to rake in 210 crores net in India and 450 crores gross worldwide. This success can be attributed to Shah Rukh Khan’s star power, some family audience support, and the Christmas-New Year season.
Now, the big question is how ‘Dunki’ will fare on the OTT platform. Will the digital audience be more forgiving, or will it face even harsher criticism on Netflix? We will know soon.
