IND vs ENG Live Score, 3rd Test Day 1: India look to maintain momentum against England at Rajkot.

IND vs ENG 3rd Test Live Score Updates: Skipper Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja weathered the storm and took India to Lunch at 185 for three. Rohit batted watchfully and struck his 17th Test fifty and first of the series as Jadeja helped him to foil a collapse in the first session.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first in Rajkot. Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan make their debuts with Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja coming back to the side. England have gone in with only one change as Mark Wood replaces Shoaib Bashir. With the series perfectly poised at 1-1, India will hope that their inexperienced middle order which might comprise of two debutants in Sarfaraz Khan and wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, can step up on the absence of the veteran players.

Sarfaraz’s long overdue Test recall came after KL Rahul was ruled out of the series due to injury while Jurel might get a look in due to KS Bharat’s poor form with the bat. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will be absent from the whole series but in a positive update, hometown boy Ravindra Jadeja has been cleared to play the Rajkot test after he sat out the 2nd Test at Vizag due to injury.

IND vs ENG: How the Rajkot pitch can favour England more than India

“The team management decides the pitch. Not me,” Kuldeep Yadav would say when asked why there have been no akhadas (rank-turners) in the Test series so far. When pressed, he would offer, “Batting is also important.” And leave it at that without getting into the brittleness of India’s batting.

That quote about team-management influencing the pitch was perhaps a freudian slip about the worst-kept secret. Not a secret, really, as Rahul Dravid’s numerous pitch walks and long chats with curators through the series have all been done in the open.

The pitch doesn’t look too far different from the last time England played a Test here under Alastair Cook in 2016. England made 537 and 260 for 3 declared, and India, who had scored 488, almost panic-collapsed on the last day before Virat Kohli (49 not out), R Ashwin (32) and Jadeja (32 not out) saved them as they ended on 172 for 6.
