Sarfaraz Khan, renowned for his consistent performances in Mumbai’s domestic cricket circuit, has long awaited his call-up to the national team.
Finally receiving his maiden call-up earlier in the series, the 26-year-old found himself on the cusp of realizing his dream of donning the Indian Test cap, especially with the absence of key players like KL Rahul and Virat Kohli.
In a touching gesture, former India captain and legendary spinner Anil Kumble presented Sarfaraz with his cap, reflecting on the arduous journey and the triumph of perseverance.

“Sarfu, really proud of you, the way you have come through… I am sure your dad and your family will be extremely proud… You will have lots of wonderful memories today. (This is the) start of a long career, only 310 people have played before you, and this is for you. Good luck,” expressed Kumble, echoing sentiments of pride and encouragement.
On the other hand, Dhruv Jurel, hailing from Uttar Pradesh and boasting an impressive batting average nearing 47, emerged as the natural choice for the wicketkeeper-batter’s role.
Former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthikduring the cap presentation, emphasized the significance of representing India in Test cricket and urged Jurel to cherish the opportunity.
“Coming from Agra, moving to Noida at a very young age, your mother being with you… all the tough things that must have happened in the journey, there must have been so many people through that journey who would have really helped you… There is something divine and pure about wearing the whites and representing India in Test cricket,” remarked Karthik, encapsulating the essence of the occasion.
As Sarfaraz and Jurel were bestowed with their Test caps, emotions ran high, with Sarfaraz seen sharing the moment with his father and coach Naushad Khanevoking tears of joy.
Jurel, reflecting on his journey, expressed gratitude to his family and mentors for their unwavering support.
Former India stumper Karthik, highlighting the rarity and prestige of playing Test cricket for India, urged Jurel to seize the moment and make the most of the opportunity.
“What you have achieved is really special and may you stay here long and do really well,” conveyed Karthik, encapsulating the hopes and aspirations of cricket fans across the nation.
