80 Year Old Dies Walking in Mumbai Airport

In a shocking incident coming out of Mumbai’ Chatrapati Shivaji airport, an 80 year old senior citizen sadly passed away due to walking a total of 1.5km from the airplane to the immigration centre, all due to an absence of wheelchairs.

Coming from NewYork in an Air India flight, the man was accompanied by his wife and has also pre registered for wheelchair service, but due to unfortunate odds, the bird housed thirty plus people that required wheelchairs while the number of wheelchairs available to the ground staff was only 15. Following this, the staff did offer the man to wait for the second round and get wheelchair assistance but he declined saying he could walk along his wife, a move which resulted in his disheartening demise.

As per the professionals of the airline, it is often seen amongst elderly people that in the cases of shortage of wheelchairs they are reluctant towards having to go alone and prefer being escorted alongside their family members, hence ultimately choosing the option to walk.

The officials further said that the staff was connected to the man at all times and ready to provide any assistance if needed. As a conclusion to their statement they confessed that they truly regret this unfortunate incident and are now in constant touch with the deceased’s family members, willing to take any steps they’re asked to.

This incident sheds light on the fact that we still need our services to be more inclusive, especially towards the specially abled people who truly need the help of the community to live a happy life, one which is lived to its fullest. We hope that no such incidents occur in the future where the needed are not provided the basic necessities, irrespective of the chance of a casualty and only out of mutual respect for fellow human beings.
