Blade Runner 2099 Gets Grander With This Director

Blade Runner 2099 is the next live-action series from Amazon Studios that will continue the story of the renowned sci-fi franchise. Set in 2099, the show will examine the ideas of human nature, power and freedom in a world reminiscent of a dystopia.

This series already has some talented names in its production. With Ridley Scott, the original Blade Runner film’s director, as an executive producer, and Michael Green, the co-writer of the sequel as one of the producers, getting this series made will be easier. Silka Luisa who had been the brains behind Halo and Shining Girls TV adaptations will be the showrunner and writer.

But the most exciting news for fans is the announcement of the director for the first two episodes: Jonathon van Tulleken. The British director is well-known for his work on Shōgun, a TV series that tells the story of Japan in the feudal period, and Top Boy, the drama that explores the underground life of London. He has to his credit several horror shorts and features, for example, Off Season and Eden Lake.

The hallmark of Van Tulleken’s style of filmmaking is its ability to create 3-dimensional and realistic surroundings to go with the fact that it handles action and suspense so well. He fits the Blade Runner universe to perfection, as it is a complex one in both visuals and theme. The new persona of this character will be innovative and creative, but will also not lack in the essence of the beloved franchise.
