Luke Shaw: Manchester United’s England defender faces a ‘few months’ out and could miss Euros

Shaw has made 12 Premier League appearances for Manchester United this season

England defender Luke Shaw is a doubt for Euro 2024 after sustaining a leg injury which Manchester United say could keep him out “for a few months”.

Shaw, 28, was replaced just before half-time during his side’s Premier League win at Luton on Sunday.

That came just seven days after failing to appear for the second half of his side’s win at Aston Villa.

United manager Erik ten Hag said after the Luton game it “did not look great” for Shaw.

“Luke Shaw has sustained a muscle injury and will be out for an extended period,” said United in a statement.

“Further assessment is still needed to determine the severity but we expect him to be absent for a few months.”

The injury puts Shaw’s place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad in doubt for this summer’s Euros in Germany.

For United, it also leaves Ten Hag without a recognised left-back.

The Dutchman opted to cut short Sergio Reguilon’s loan from Tottenham during the January transfer window, believing Shaw and Tyrell Malacia were close to fitness after injury.

However, Dutchman Malacia has yet to feature this season, leaving Victor Lindelof as the most likely option for Saturday’s home game with Fulham.
