Mahindra Scorpio X Trademarked – New Variant Or Pick-Up?

Mahindra has trademarked the Scorpio X name, which is expected to be the new Scorpio-N based pick-up. The company had also filed trademarks for Scorpio K, Scorpio L, Scorpio M and Scorpio Z; however, only the Scorpio X has been accepted. Mahindra had showcased the Global Pik Up concept last year, which will enter production in near future.

Internally called Z121, the Mahindra Scorpio-N based lifestyle pick-up will first go on sale in global markets including South Africa, Australia and the Middle East. Likely to be called the Mahindra Scorpio X, the new model will be based on the next-gen ladder frame architecture. The company claims that the new platform has been designed to achieve high scores in Global NCAP as well as Euro NCAP crash tests.

Mahindra has already patented the design of the Scorpio N pickup. The design patent image reveals that the lifestyle pickup will retain the essence of its concept, which was originally crafted at the Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS). The production-spec model will have a newly designed all-black grille, new headlamps equipped with LED daytime running lights (DRLs), a metallic bash plate, and a prominent bumper. It retains the roof rack with a wide LED light bar, door cladding, and a double cab design with a load bed from the concept version.

It will have dual tow hooks at the front and rear, and a new set of alloy wheels. The wheelbase of the Mahindra Scorpio X pick-up will be extended to accommodate a spacious load area. It will have a higher ground clearance compared to the Scorpio N SUV. At the back, the pick-up gets pixel-shaped tail-lamps and ‘Mahindra’ badging is embossed on the tailgate.

Mahindra Scorpio N Pickup patent

The Mahindra Scorpio N pickup concept was equipped with an electric sunroof, 5G-based connectivity features and a Level 2 autonomous driving system with semi-automatic parking. The electronic stability program (ESP) has a Trailer Sway Mitigation feature, which detects swaying in a towed trailer and employs ESP interventions involving brake and throttle control to counteract it.

Mahindra has confirmed that the Scorpio N pickup will receive the Green II all-aluminium mHawk diesel engine. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox from Aisin. The pickup will have 4WD capability and shift-on-the-fly functionality. It will have 4 drive modes – Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut, and Sand.
