Disappointing, particularly since here was a tailor-made situation for this specific situation / road condition. Kind of defeats the purpose for which I bought this car (coupled with the fact that snow chains cannot be fitted at all).
BHPian zenmaster666 recently shared this with other enthusiasts.
Just concluded a 2400 odd km trip from Delhi to Kashmir & back on my Z8L AT, and apart from the usual niggles (rear view camera only occupying 1/3rd of the screen when engaging “R” on the shift, Apple CarPlay random disconnections and drops), came across one major glitch.
This happened on the last day of our stay at Sonamarg when the outside temperature was around -4 (minus four) degrees in the morning. While Kashmir has seen ridiculously low snowfall this season, we were fortunate to experience a few inches of fresh precipitation on the 26th and 29th of January. Anyway, since there was snow on the road, i wished to engage the Terrain Selector (4XPLOR Mode) to “Grass/Gravel/Snow” by twirling the selection knob. To my surprise, the wheel rotated freely, but did not move from the default “Normal” mode despite several attempts. Tried it from various stages – standstill, P mode, D mode, while crawling – to no avail. The selector refused to budge from “Normal” no matter what. Finally, gave up and just pressed the 4H button while traversing the tricky sections of the road – especially where there was sludge and black ice.
Disappointing, particularly since here was a tailor-made situation for this specific situation / road condition. Kind of defeats the purpose for which I bought this car (coupled with the fact that snow chains cannot be fitted at all).
The next day, at Srinagar, where the temperature was about 7-8 degrees warmer, the selector worked just fine.
Has anyone else experienced this anomaly?
Here’s what BHPian Amrit@Wheels had to say on the matter:
Sad to hear about your experience. This kind of defeats the purpose of paying 29L for a 4×4 SUV with all the 4WD bells and whistles. I suspect this is good old Mahindra ‘technology’ plagued with glitches and malfunctions. You should talk to the A.S.S but I am afraid even they would be clueless since they are helpless about even the basic issues.
