In the forthcoming months, Mahindra, the indigenous automaker, is set to unveil its new offering, the Mahindra Thar 5-door lifestyle off-road SUV. Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO of Mahindra and Mahindra, has officially confirmed the impending arrival of the 5-door Thar, stating, “The Thar 5-door will have a separate line, as we’ve shared earlier, and will launch sometime in the middle of this calendar year.” Speculation surrounds a potential debut on Independence Day, August 15th, with subsequent market launch expected within the following months.
The production-ready version of the 5-door Thar is anticipated to carry the ‘Mahindra Thar Armada’ nameplate. Distinguished from its 3-door counterpart, it will feature unique styling, including a redesigned grille and front bumper integrating fog lamps.
Expectations point towards comprehensive LED lighting throughout, encompassing LED headlamps, fog lamps, side indicators on the front fenders, and taillamps. While 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels may grace the higher trims, entry-level variants could opt for steel wheels. The rear quarter glass is slated to resemble the Thar EV concept showcased last year, with distinct rear door handles. Read: Big Discounts On 3 Popular Mahindra SUVs – February 2024
The interior of the 5-door Mahindra Thar is set to offer a plethora of features compared to its 3-door variant. Prospective offerings include monotone and dual-tone dashboard options, complemented by dual digital screens – one serving as a 10.25-inch infotainment system and the other as an instrument cluster. Additional amenities may include a single-pane sunroof, leatherette seat upholstery, front and rear center armrests, rear AC vents, push-button start, rear wheel disc brakes, and more.
Engine and suspension setups are expected to be borrowed from the Scorpio N. The Mahindra Thar 5-door is anticipated to be powered by a choice of engines, including the 2.0L turbo petrol (203bhp with 370Nm/380Nm) and 2.2L turbo diesel (130bhp with 300Nm and 138bhp with 370Nm/400Nm). Buyers can expect both 2WD and 4WD drivetrain options.
