India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki is now ready to enter the electric vehicle space with an all-new electric SUV based on the EVX concept. The concept was unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo, while the closer to pre-production model recently debuted in Toyota. Tata Motors is also readying multiple EVs to further strengthen its position in the EV space. The company will launch the Curvv SUV Coupe with electric powertrain this year. It will directly rival the Maruti Suzuki EVX concept based SUV and the upcoming EVs including the Hyundai Creta-based EV and the Toyota Urban SUV Concept based EV.
Maruti Suzuki EVX
It is reported that the production version of the Maruti Suzuki EVX will be launched in late 2024, most probably around September-October 2024. The electric SUV will be locally developed at Suzuki’s Gujarat based manufacturing plant. This electric SUV will also be exported to several international markets including Europe. It will come with a high amount of localised content including batteries and drivetrain.
The Suzuki eVX electric SUV will be based on an all-new skateboard platform, which will also underpin multiple Suzuki and Toyota electric models. Suzuki is already manufacturing batteries for hybrid vehicles at its Gujarat based facility, and the same facility is also expected to build batteries for EVs too. It will be offered with a 60kWh battery pack with LFP blade cell and is likely to offer a range of up to 550km on a single charge. Tata Curvv SUV Coupe EV
After introducing the Punch EV, Tata Motors is now planning to introduce two new SUVs including the Curvv EV and the Harrier EV in 2024. While the Curvv SUV Coupe will go on sale by mid-2024, the Harrier EV will be launched sometime in late 2024. The electric SUV will be designed and developed on Tata’s new Acti.ev platform, which is designed to optimize space and energy consumption.
The Tata Curvv EV measures 4308mm in length, 1801mm in width and 1630mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2560mm. It has a boot space of 422-litres. The electric SUV are likely to offer a host of advanced features including ADAS tech, a 360-degree camera, a large touchscreen infotainment system, a new twin-spoke steering wheel, and a redesigned central tunnel with rotary dials.
